Congratulations
Dr. Subrahmanyam Karuturi,PG Medicine won first prize in Seminar Presentation at MERT 2010, Bangalore. MERT 2010 is an Internal Medicine CME attended by more than 275 Medicine Postgraduates from all over India.
JSS PG MEDICON 2010
A maiden State level Post Graduate Update Programme was held under the auspices of Department of Medicine, J.S.S. Medical College, Mysore on 3rd and 4th September 2010 with the motto “Update & Upgrade”.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr.Mrutyunjaya Kulenur, Registrar, JSS University, Mysore on 3rd September 2010 at Sri. Rajendra Auditorium, JSS Hospital Premises, Mysore. Dr.K.A.Sudharshanamurthy, Professor and Head, Department of Medicine welcomed the dignitaries and all delegates. Dr.Kulenur in his inaugural address lauded the efforts of the HOD and the department, also emphasized the need for such update programmes. This programme has been designed keeping the post graduate students in mind; though, knowledge is fast expanding and available to all at fingertips, the experience of faculty would undoubtedly give it a fillip to put into practice, he opined. Dr.H.Basavana Gowdappa, Principal, JSS Medical College in his Presidential address hinted to postgraduates to make use of such update programmes ; which are catering to both the academic and clinical needs. Dr.P.A.Kushalappa, Director, Academics, JSS University, Dr. Vijaya Simha, Registrar, Evaluation, JSS University, Mysore were the guests of honour. Dr.K.Veerabhadrappa, Medical Superintendent, J.S.S. Hospital, Dr.Mrutyunjayappa, Additional Superintendent, J.S.S. Hospital, Mysore were the special invitees. Dr.Y.S. Ravikumar, Associate Professor, Organizing Secretary proposed vote of thanks. Dr.K.M.Srinath, Associate Professor, Joint Secretary compeered the inaugural function.
The two day long update included clinical case discussions by experienced senior Professors of various medical colleges from all over the state of Karnataka. Consultants and experts of various allied sub-specialties of leading institutions from all over the state shared their pearls of wisdom with the postgraduate students.
The proceedings included lucid lectures on current and relevant topics for postgraduate students by experienced and impressive speakers. Each session was followed by interesting interaction with the speakers with senior faculty members participating as moderators.
There were dedicated sessions focusing on practical and essential aspects of medical practice like, ECG interpretation, approach to arrhythmias and imaging in Medicine, which were well received by the participants.
On the whole, the JSS PG Medicon 2010 was well received by the participants and an overwhelming response was evident by the participation of about 125 Medicine Post graduates, 20 Pharmacy PG students and 75 faculty members participating in this maiden effort by the Department of Medicine.
The visiting faculty members were highly appreciative of the efforts of the department and there was a unanimous request from the delegates to make MEDICON-PG Update an “annual event”.
All the dignitaries and faculty were honoured with saplings as a token of appreciation of their participation. This novel, eco-friendly idea was welcomed by one and all. Registrar of JSS University who was the Chief Guest of the inaugural function opined that, this has set a good precedence and made a suggestion to the Principal to make it a practice to present saplings in on all official functions in future.
